It is January and India is playing its first ODI series of the year 2014 against New Zealand. We are expecting India to show a good performance again in this year 2014. Indian cricket team really do very well in 2013 in ODI matches. India has lost the first ODI match against New Zealand and you may like to know how this happened. The first loss against New Zealand will really make Indian team less confident and they need to re-define their strategies.
New Zealand batting first scored 294 runs in 50 overs. New Zealand lost 7 wickets and out of the 7 wickets, 4 wickets were taken by Indian fast bowler Shami. Again Ishant Sharma failed in the first ODI against New Zealand. Ishant Sharma took only 1 wicket and he gave away 70 runs. Even the spin bowlers didn't look much impressive in the first ODI against New Zealand. Anderson scored a really quick 72 runs and he really dominated all the Indian bowlers.
Indian batsman again failed playing the short deliveries. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina all of the 3 top batsman got out playing shot deliveries. Indian batsman have been known for failing against short bowling and this time again same has happened in the first ODI against New Zealand. Indian batsman which were successful are MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
Virat Kohli has been the best ODI player for India from the last 2/3 years and in the first ODI too against New Zealand he proved his worth. Virat Kohli made 123 runs and it seemed that he will make India win the first ODI match against New Zealand. When MS Dhoni got out on 40 runs, the downfall for the Indian cricket team began. Indian bowlers didn't do much good with the bat which made India finally get all out on 268 runs. If Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin would have made at least 30 runs each then definitely India would have won but this didn't happen.
India really needs to make few changes in the team for the upcoming ODI matches. India mainly needs to re-think that whether we really need 2 spinners playing in the ODI matches against New Zealand. Let us hope that India will do some changes and will win the upcoming ODI matches against New Zealand.
